Todd Akin’s Wife Thinks GOP’s Treatment of Her Husband was Kind of Like Rape

And the ‘Poorly Chosen Metaphor of the Week’ Award goes to: Lulli Akin!

When Rep. Todd Akin made his now-infamous ‘legitimate rape’ comment, many of us were curious about his wife. Who is Mrs. Legitimate Rape? What self-respecting woman would marry a man so ignorant and contemptuous of women’s rights?

That woman is Lulli Akin, and those questions seem really naïve now, because it turns out that Mrs. Akin is just as clueless as her husband.

Lulli recently gave an interview to The National Journal, in which she addressed the GOP’s attempt to convince her husband to step down from his bid for Senator following the ‘legitimate rape’ fiasco.

“Party bosses dictating who is allowed to advance through the party and make all the decisions – it’s just like 1776 in that way,” said Lulli. She went on to describe 1776 as the time that the colonists, “rose up and said, ‘Not in my home, you don’t come and rape my daughters and my … wife. But that is where we are again.”

Yes, that was Todd ‘legitimate rape’ Akin’s wife comparing his treatment by the GOP higher-ups as being kind of like rape. Except it couldn’t have been legitimate rape, or else Todd would’ve just shut that whole thing down.

Pro tip: if you are a politician and you’re considering using a rape metaphor to emphasize a point, just don’t.
