Justin Bieber’s Mother Pattie Mallette Reveals Past Sexual Abuse, Decision Not To Abort Justin in New Memoir

In hew new memoir Nowhere But Up, Justin Bieber’s mother, Pattie Mallette, reveals her dark history of sexual abuse, drug addiction, a suicide attempt, and her decision not to get an abortion when she became pregnant with Justin at age 17.

In a new interview with The Today Show, Pattie (now 37) opened up about sexual abuse she suffered for years. “I’ve learned it’s normal and natural for anybody who’s been through sexual abuse to carry that shame and that blame and feel like there’s something wrong with you. So I definitely carried that,” Pattie explained.

At one point, she attempted suicide; she said that it was “a culmination of, you know, built up over the years with the abuse and the pain and at the time I was messed up with all the drugs and alcohol. I was in a depression and the drugs and alcohol kind of spurred that on some more.”

After a counselor visited her in the psych ward, Pattie said of possible abortion: “I just knew I couldn’t [abort it]. I just knew I couldn’t. I just know I had to keep him And, do the best. I — you know, I didn’t know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn’t — I couldn’t abort. I had to do my best. I had to see what I could do. And I was determined to do whatever it took.”

Pattie says she’s opening up so much in the book because she wants to help young girls who are going through the same things she did – and also to aid in her own healing process. “Other people’s stories helped me get through some hard times,” she told Matt Lauer.
