Worst ATM Pin Numbers Revealed; 11% of People Use 1234
Think you can keep things simple by using 1234 as your ATM pin number? So do a ton of other idiots. According to Yahoo Finance, scientist, Nick Berry, founder of Data Genetics, analyzed 3.4 million 4-digit ATM passwords and found a “staggering lack of imagination”: 11% of the passcodes were 1234.
Meanwhile, 6% of people use 1111 and 2% use 0000. Berry says that 6.83% of all passwords could be guessed by attempting just 20 different combinations of four-digit numbers. “It’s amazing how predictable people are,” he says, adding that “no one thinks their wallet will get stolen.” Other popular pins include 1212 and 7777. The pin number 2580 is also common because the numbers are placed straight down the middle of ATM pinpads.
Many other people use their birthdays or birth years – but this is also unwise, since if you lose your wallet, your driver’s license will easily give thieves this information. Pick someone else’s birthday! Let’s see…Ryan Gosling’s is November 12…how about 1112? That one’s much less common than the 15th most popular ATM pin number, 1122. (Interestingly, 1122 is Scarlett Johansson’s birthday – don’t use it!)
The least common ATM pin number is 8068 – probably because it contains no repeating numbers, and because it’s not a year or potential birthday.
Hopefully this news will make you go CHANGE YOUR PIN and not go steal someone’s wallet.
