Peanuts Movie Bringing Charlie Brown and Snoopy to Theaters in 2015!
Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang are coming to the big screen! According to The Huffington Post, Blue Sky Studios (the people behind Ice Age and Rio) have announced that they’re working with 20th Century Fox on a new a Peanuts film slated to hit theaters on November 25, 2015 – the 65th anniversary of the first Peanuts comic strip.
The movie, which doesn’t yet have a name, will be directed by Steve Martino of Horton Hears a Who and Ice Age: Continental Drift. Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy and Sally are all included in the script, which was co-written by Peanuts’ creator Charles Schulz’s son, Craig Schulz, and grandson, Bryan Schulz, along with Cornelius Ulian.
“We have been working on this project for years,” Craig Schulz said. “We finally felt the time was right and the technology is where we need it to be to create this film. I am thrilled we will be partnering with Blue Sky/Fox to create a Peanuts movie that is true to the strip and will continue the legacy in honor of my father.”
The internet is abuzz with criticism about ruining the classic characters – but with Schulz family involvement, I think it’s safe to say that the movie will stay faithful to the original characters. This certainly isn’t the first Peanuts movie; Snoopy and the gang have appeared in four feature films, two musicals and 45 television specials. I admit that I was pretty obsessed with Snoopy as a kid, and watched Bon Voyage Charlie Brown so many times that I wore out the videocassette. Why isn’t it on DVD???
At least I can see Snoopy on the big screen in three years!
Are you excited too?
