President Obama Weighs in on Mariah Carey/Nicki Minaj Feud

In today’s head-scratching news of the day, we have an official response from President Barack Obama on the Mariah Carey/Nicki Minaj American Idol feud. According to Celebuzz, the president did a call-in interview with a morning radio show on Miami’s Y100, and host Michael Yo’s first question was whether the Prez should step in to resolve things.

“You know what, I think that they are going to be able to sort it out. I am confident,” the President said. “I am all about bringing people together, working for the same cause. I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they’re moving forward and not going backwards.”

Going for some more hard-hitting questions, Yo also asked President Obama whether he prefers Mariah or Nicki. “Mariah, she’s done some events for us, and I’ve gotten to know her. She’s a wonderful lady,” he said. “Nicki I don’t know, but I’ve got her on my iPod.”

Apparently he’s not upset that Nicki rapped that she was voting for Mitt Romney. Nicki later explained that she is not really a Mitt Romney fan; at the time, President Obama responded, “Yeah, I’m not sure [an endorsement is] actually what happened,” he said. “I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that. But she likes to play different characters. So I don’t know what’s going on there.” Nicki said she was glad President Obama understood her creative humor and sarcasm.

Michael Yo also asked the Prez how he would do if he were on Idol. “You’ve heard me sing some Al Green,” he said, adding, “I’m going to try to keep my day job.”

Kudos to Obama for answering the silly questions with grace. Rumors are swirling that the entire feud is actually FAKE – and happened just so that American Idol could snag higher ratings.

Do you think the President should have brushed off such a silly question?
