Drake Graduates From High School – At 25
Maybe Drake’s life isn’t so different from his old Degrassi character…according to Us Weekly, he has just now received his high school diploma. He tweeted last night: “97% on my final exam. 88% in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school.”
The 25 year-old added, “Thank you to my teacher Kim Janzen for spending the last 5 months working tirelessly with me!!”
Ironically, Drake dropped out of high school so he could play high school student Jimmy on Degrassi: The Next Generation. It’s tempting to want to make fun of Drake for taking this long to graduate high school, but check out his reason for doing TV: “My mother was very sick. We were poor, like broke,” Drake explained. “The only money I had coming in was off of Canadian TV, which isn’t that much money when you break it down. A season of Canadian television is under a teacher’s salary…”
Okay, you win, Drake. You’re a good person and I’m a snarky biatch. I’m glad he’s shining the light on the value of education. If his millions of fans follow his lead and complete high school, that can only be a good thing. Rihanna, for example, never finished high school; “I wanted to,” she told GQ. “I just got really busy.”
But Justin Bieber DID finish high school, earlier this year. Congrats, grads!
