If you’ve been on the Internet at all lately, you’ve no doubt become acquainted with the “idiot nerd girl” meme. If by some miracle you haven’t, this picture will pretty much bring you up to speed:

Unfortunately for all of us women who have “geeky” pastimes and interests, the attitude behind this meme extends well beyond image macros on Reddit. The simple truth is, women are not welcome in the geek subculture, unless they’re there exclusively to serve men’s interests.

This sexist and unwelcoming attitude was recently exemplified in a post by comic book illustrator Tony Harris. It seems Harris has a big problem with female cosplayers who he personally doesn’t find attractive or “truly nerdy” enough.

It’s long and poorly formatted and totally batshit crazy, so I’m not going to reproduce it here. But you’ll find it in the video below, or in text form over at BleedingCool.com.

The amazing albinwonderland (how have I never heard of her before oh my god?!) created this awesome video response to Mr. Harris, in which she takes him to the cleaners over his post, and speaks out against the attitude that women don’t belong in geek subculture if they aren’t “real geeks” (or, failing that, decorative enough). I don’t need to say anything else about it, because it’s perfect. Check it out:
