‘Star Wars’ Geeks Thought Carrie Fisher’s ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ Joke Was Serious
Carrie Fisher isn’t officially cast as Princess Leia in the upcoming Star Wars reboots — at least not yet.
But apparently fans took her seriously when she responded to the question, “Can you confirm whether you’ll reprise the role of Princess Leia?” with “Yes.”
The interviewer followed up with, “What do you think Princess Leia is like today?”
Carrie answered, “Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home [laughs]. I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”
Geeks took that and ran with it, speculating that Carrie would be back for Star Wars Episode VII — perhaps because rumors have also swirled about Harrison Ford returning as Han Solo. As Slate points out, Carrie is 14 years younger than Harrison.
But don’t get too excited just yet.
“She was joking,” Carrie’s rep told CNN. “Nothing has been announced.”
Hmm… the rep didn’t say “she’s not coming back” — just that nothing has been announced. Does that mean things are just being finalized? OK, now I see how easy it is to fall for these rumors!
Meanwhile, the LA Times reports that George Lucas says that months ago, Harrison, Carrie and Mark Hamill were all in “final negotiations” to reprise their roles.
But the intergalactic old folks’ home — that was clearly a joke, people.
Would you want to see Carrie come back for Star Wars Episode VII?
