Special Needs Students Need Your Help to Get to Prom (VIDEO)

If you went to prom, you know it can be a wicked good time. It’s the one night of your teenage years when you get to justify dressing to the nines, partying with all your pals, and being treated like a celebrity — often to the tune of several hundred dollars.

But not everyone has the funds to rock out like you did on your prom night. A Night to Remember was started by some kind people in the San Diego area to help give special needs students the full prom experience, complete with all the glamor and glitz. Their goal is to make prom happen for students with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism and other physical challenges.

Donations help special needs students get glammed up with a new dress or tux. Ladies can get their hair styled and fellas can be decked out in an stylish boutonniere. The night also involves a limo ride, red carpet treatment, dinner and dancing — all the fixings of an awesome prom experience.

Each special needs student or “Honored Guest” is paired up with an “able-bodied” student from an area high school who acts as a “Host.” It’s a great way for students from different communities to meet and mingle.

This will be the third year of A Night to Remember and they need your help to make it happen. In its first year, the prom extravaganza was a huge success. Organizers planned for 50 students, but 300 guests showed up and many students had to be turned away. Last year, it was an even bigger hit and organizers were a bit more prepared with 500 guests in mind. Over 550 prom-goers showed up looking fab and ready to get their prom on.

This year, you can help make the 2013 Night to Remember the biggest event to date. The organizers are hoping to raise enough money to send 800 students (400 Honored Guests and 400 Hosts) to this year’s prom. Not only do you get to make someone’s prom dream come true, but you also get to be a part of the festivities. Depending on your donation, you can get a Facebook or Twitter shout out, livestream coverage of the soiree, or photos of the guests partying in their limos or walking the red carpet.

Donations can be made here. Only 31 days left until prom night!
