“It seems celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton was assaulted by Will.I.Am around Midnight PST Sunday night. According to his Twitter account, right now he is bleeding outside the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel in Toronto.

After the alleged attack Perez sent out a call for help on Twitter, which apparently is better than calling the police. I’m sure the mounted police are rushing to the scene right now.”

I’m happy to announce we have a new Twirlit editor, one Kathrien Ahn. Thanks to her hard work these past few months we are now reaching an audience of over 400,000 visitors a month. That’s huge, and with those numbers it is time to bring on a dedicated Editor to the effort.

I’ve worked with Kat for some time now and have really come to respect her work and dedication. When she isn’t singing Hip-Hop at a local karaoke bar, she’s working hard to bring you latest news here on Twirlit. She is constantly sending me ideas, questions and more. Annika Sorenstam Pregnant

Annika Sorenstam, female golfer extraordinaire – well known for winning a lot of international tournaments (90 in total) and making a lot of money in the process (over $22 million) – retired from the sport last December to pursue building a business and a family. A month later she married her long-time boyfriend Mike McGee and now today she has more “family building” news: She’s pregnant!

Announced from her blog this morning, Anna let the world know that the happy couple would be “adding a new addition to [their] family later this fall” and that they were “absolutely thrilled.”

And good for them says this Twirlit blogger. It’s good to see a smart and talented woman who knows what she wants go out and get it. Wanted to become one of the world’s greatest golfers? Done. Start a successful business and lovely family? Done and done. And all at the tender age of thirty eight.
Annika Sorenstam, you have my congratulations. May your dreams continue to come true.

Legendary radio personality Paul Harvey died at the age of 90.

His fifteen minute news segments were broadcast on 1,100 terrestrial U.S frequencies and over 400 Army frequencies, reaching a staggering daily audience unheard of in modern radio.

He came from the old school of broadcasting, not subscribing to any real particular “listenership” or group of people: merely focusing on delivering the news in as unbiased a way as it could be presented. During the Vietnam war he received a lot of clout from listeners who thought that as one of the most heard voices in America that he should at least have somewhat of a solid opinion. However, Mr Harvey only ever once changed his non-biased opinion on the matter when he famously declared “Mister President, I love you, but you’re wrong”.

At 81 in the year 2000 he signed a $100 million dollar ten year contract to keep broadcasting. How many other 81 year olds do you know that have $100 million contracts?

When asked “how he did it” the best answer can be found in an interview from 2002 where he told the Chicago Tribune “I’ve got an old country boy’s philosophy. When the car’s running, you don’t look inside the carburator. Just keep rolling.”

He got his start in Tulsa at the age of 14 when a teacher said he had a great voice for radio. He began helping out at local radio station KVOO-AM and within a year was speaking on the air. Until his death he was based in Chicago, and would often take his Lear jet out for corporate and commercial speeches.

Paul’s famous “and now you know… the rest of the story” line goes up there with all the great broadcasting lines. Like Harry Carey’s jubilant expressions and Orson Welles’s famous “War Of The Worlds” broadcast, Paul was probably best known for his almost melodramatic pauses and his frank matter-of-fact delivery. Practically everything Paul Harvey did for nigh on sixty years in radio was pure broadcasting excellence. And for that, we salute you.

In the belief that several hundred thousand palates can’t be wrong, Tsavo Media (www.tsavo.com) today announced that it has acquired Open Source Food (OSF) from Egg & Co., a venture of Tokyo-based Web producer Jon Anthony Yongfook Cockle (“Yongfook”).

Effective today, OSF has been renamed NibbleDish (www.nibbledish.com) and will join Tsavo’s new network of content sites for consumers, currently in development. Yongfook will remain with the company.

Ranked among Time Magazine’s 50 Best Websites in 2008, OSF was described as “a foodie’s wiki-paradise… an appealing for-the-masses-by-the-masses vibe.” A recipe social network with a strong visual element, NibbleDish.com is the only site in the genre that guarantees a picture for every recipe, and permits owners to license the picture and the recipe under various creative commons licenses. NibbleDish.com currently offers nearly 4,000 recipes, all with user-provided photos. The overwhelming majority of recipes are exclusive and original to the site.

“Jon has a tremendous following – this is his passion, and we’re delighted that he’ll remain the face of the OSF community,” said Mike Jones, CEO and founder, Tsavo Media. “As part of our new content network, NibbleDish.com will gain broad exposure domestically and internationally, with seamless links to our men’s, women’s and parenting properties.”

“We’ll be expanding both our outreach and our content,” Yongfook said. “We’ve been known for amazing recipes, delicious food and beautiful photography, created and rated by food-lovers the world over. A serial web-app builder, Yongfook is also responsible for the popular lifestreaming software Sweetcron and analytics tool Gumtrail. From his base in Tokyo, he works with various Japanese companies as an outside consultant, building web apps and overseeing production.

Washington is throwing a lavish $160-million party to celebrate the Obama inauguration on Tuesday. However, much as we’d like to be there and cheer for Barack Obama, it’s not going to be possible for all of us to do that. Many of us simply won’t be able to make it and many just don’t feel brave enough to stand and cheer in the subzero temperatures.

However, for those who cannot be present at the Capitol Building in person the internet provides a compelling alternative to experience the even in real time and up close.

The Obama inauguration will be available live on the web and at the same time you can also get to view images and videos that the people present at the event will upload to social networking sites like Twitter, Youtube, Flickr, etc.

There are many resources to watch the Obama inauguration online –

C-SPAN has been offering detailed live webcasts of the build-up to the Obama inauguration since Saturday and will air the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday.

Livestation is a P-2-P app that lets you get multiple perspectives on the Obama inauguration by connecting you to channels such as Al-Jazeera English, BBC World News, France 24, C-Span, etc.

Fox News and CNN will stream live webcasts of the Obama inauguration. Obama Inauguration Schedule

Here is a complete breakdown of President Barack Obama’s inauguration schedule.

Saturday January 17

Obama and his family traveled by train to from Philadelphia to Washington to recreate the train journey that Abraham Lincoln undertook.

Sunday January 18

At 2pm ET Obama kicked off the inauguration activities with a welcome event at the Lincoln Memorial. The free concert saw performances by Bruce Springsteen, Bono and U2, and Beyoncé.

Monday January 19

Events for Monday include –
• National Day of Community Service event – In honor of the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. the families of Obama and Vice-president elect Joe Biden will take part in community activities to promote the spirit of serving others.
• A children’s evening concert honoring the families of servicemen – This event is hosted by Michelle Obama and will have performances by Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and others.
• Private dinners hosted to commend the services of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Biden and Sen. John McCain for their public service. Obama will attend these functions.

Tuesday January 20

Gates to the inauguration ceremonies will open at 8 am. Inauguration ceremonies to commence at 10 am on the steps of the Capitol building.
The sequence of events is as follows -
• Musical selections – The United States Marine Band, followed by The San Francisco Boys Chorus and the San Francisco Girls Chorus.
• Senator Dianne Feinstein provides the call to order and welcoming remarks.
• Invocation by Reverend Rick Warren.
• Musical selection of Aretha Franklin
• Swearing-in ceremony of Vice-President elect Joe Biden by Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. This will commence at 11:30 am.
• Musical selections of John Williams, composer/arranger with Itzhak Perlman, (violin), Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Gabriela Montero (piano) and Anthony McGill (clarinet)
• President-elect Barack Obama will take the oath of office, sworn-in by Chief Justice John Roberts. Obama will use the same Bible that Abraham Lincoln used for his inauguration ceremony. Obama’s inauguration will commence at 12 pm.
• President Barack Obama’s inaugural address
• Poem by Elizabeth Alexander
• Benediction by the Reverend Dr Joseph E Lowery
• The National Anthem performed by the US navy band Sea Chanters
1pm: President has lunch with the Congressional leaders.
2pm: The parade from Congress down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
Evening: Obama will attend ten inaugural balls.
