A new Forbes study names Will Ferrell as Hollywood's most overpaid star. Who else made the list?

Fact. Will Ferrell makes a lot more than his curly fro is worth. According to a new Forbes.com study, our favorite “Anchorman” is Hollywood’s most overpaid star, due in part to the massive bomb that was “Land of the Lost.” The study examined the average return of investment for each dollar spent on an actor’s salary, and since the aforementioned dino-comedy-gone-bust cost an estimated $100 million yet only earned $65 million at the worldwide box office, it is safe to conclude that Ferrell is no longer the sure bet he once was.

Other recent Ferrell features have suffered at the box office as well, including “Semi-Pro” which only made $43 million. For comparison, past hits such as “Elf” made $220 million and “Talladega Nights” came in at $162 million. While “Step Brothers” did better with $128 million in total, it still wasn’t enough to keep Ferrell from topping the list, since he regularly commands such a high salary.

For every dollar Ferrell was paid, his films earned an average $3.29. Compare that to Shia LaBeouf, who topped Forbes’ list of Best Actors for the Buck in August. For every dollar LaBeouf was paid, his films earned an average $160. As if you needed another reason to love Shia over Will!

Hollywood’s second-worst offender is Scotsman Ewan McGregor. Although he doesn’t earn as much as some of the other actors on the list, his recent movies have performed very poorly. For every dollar McGregor was paid, his films earned an average $3.75.

Here’s the rest of the list:

3. Billy Bob Thornton ($4.00)
4. Eddie Murphy ($4.43)
5. Ice Cube ($4.77)
6. Tom Cruise ($7.18)
7. Drew Barrymore ($7.43)
8. Leonardo DiCaprio ($7.52)
9. Samuel L. Jackson ($8.59)
10. Jim Carrey ($8.62)

Jessica and Ashley just can't stop talking about each other.

Why do Jessica and Ashlee Simpson constantly feel the need to defend one another in public statements to the media? I find myself once again pondering this question after lil’ sis Ashlee’s recent comments about her sister’s weight in Women’s Health magazine.

What I find most irritating is that both of these girls are practically irrelevant. Their careers have been in parallel tailspins for years now. There was a point in time when they both had pretty successful careers, despite neither being very talented — with the possible exception of Jessica’s singing). A talent, however, that quickly fell by the wayside when a reality show that showcased her uncanny ability to say stupid things really made her famous. But since Ashlee’s infamous SNL lip-syncing debacle and Jessica’s divorce (there went the reality show) and subsequent string of awful movies, neither has done anything worth mentioning. But yet, they keep mentioning each other. Genius plot to keep yourselves relevant girls.

So, first Jessica defends Ashlee after she is kicked off Melrose Place by calling the show crap. Which is true, but I didn’t need Jessica Simpson to tell me that. Now, Ashlee is defending her big sis against vicious criticism about her weight. No, I don’t think Jessica is fat and I think all the chatter about her weight was a little cruel. But, that’s the business, sadly. What I find most intriguing about Ashlee’s comments is how she almost calls her sister fat while trying to defend her. First she says, “my sister has an incredible body.” Then she goes on to say how when she gains weight she hopes to look like her sister. “There’s gonna be a time when I’m way curvier,” she says, ”and that’ll be sexy, too.” If that doesn’t sound like a backhanded compliment, I don’t know what does.

Last time I checked, most of the heat over Jessica’s weight had died down months ago. Way to reopen the wound, Ashlee. Well done.

Project Runway's Season 6 finale aired last night, with the usual Irina-Althea battle and poor Carol Hannah so sick she was sobbing. Find out who won.

Some people have complained that Project Runway Season 6 has been boring, but I’ve really enjoyed it — and I think there have been some fantastic clothes. The Bryant Park finale featured Althea’s trendy sportswear and big knit sweaters, Irina’s tough, black, urban-inspired designs, and Carol Hannah’s gorgeous feminine gowns.

Throughout the episode, it really seemed like anyone could be the winner of the Marie Claire spread, Paris vacation and $100,000 to start their own line. The judges liked the cohesiveness of Irina’s look, which incorporated a lot of accessories, but Nina Garcia criticized her for using nearly all-black, a decision she had warned Irina against. “Black doesn’t get a lot of editorial,” she said. Nina did love Irina’s t-shirts, though.

Althea was praised for her sportswear and knitwear, and for having a great sense of what’s going on “on the streets.” I’m not really sure where the judges get that from. I do like a lot Althea’s big sweaters, but I don’t feel like there’s anything really innovative about them.

Carol Hannah’s always been my favorite. She’s only 23, but her dresses are colorful, interesting, feminine and flattering. Judges did commend her for her playing with color the best of all three finalists, but were disappointed that her collection didn’t have a cohesive theme. I think they have a point too, but come on! Her pieces were by far the most attractive, and I bet women around the country would most want to wear those clothes.

So, you guessed it — Carol Hannah didn’t win. Irina is the winner of Project Runway Season 6!

Miley Cyrus' tour bus overturned this morning on a slippery highway near Richmond, Virginia.

The Virginia State Police are reporting a tour bus belonging to Miley Cyrus overturned this morning, killing one person. Miley, however, was not on board.

According to The Baltimore Sun:

Sgt. Thomas Molnar said the bus overturned around 8:15 this morning on Interstate 85, about 40 miles south of Richmond. The police did not identify those aboard, but one person was killed and another sustained minor injuries. Miley is still is scheduled to perform on Sunday in Greensboro, N.C.

Ten people were on board the bus when it went off the road and overturned. All ten are members of the singer’s production lighting crew, and many of them were asleep at the time of the crash. The survivors exited the wreckage through the front windshield.

Sources cannot say for sure where Miley was at the time of the accident, but it is known that she was nowhere near the scene of the crash. State Police are not confirming the identities of the injured, but CBS 6 was told that the person who died was the driver of the bus.

VSP says the roads were wet from heavy rain Thursday night, but they are not blaming the weather for the crash. I-85 south remains closed at this time and traffic is being re-routed on to the shoulder. Clean up is expected to take at least two hours and the investigation is ongoing.

O, no! "The Oprah Winfrey Show" will come to an end on September 9, 2011. Will she host a show on her new cable network?

O, no! The Oprah Winfrey Show will come to an end on September 9, 2011, Variety reports. The media maven made the announcement to her staffers at Harpo productions yesterday, and will officially tell her viewers on today’s show.

Before you start crying over the loss of celebrity interviews, cool products and inspiring stories, though, remember that she’s starting up her own cable network, OWN, which will launch in 2011. She hasn’t announced if she’ll host a new talk show there, but she’s expected to have a major presence on the network.

“We have the greatest respect for Oprah and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors,” “Oprah” distributor CBS said in a statement. “We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success. We look forward to working with her for the next several years and hopefully afterwards as well.”

Insiders said new episodes of The Oprah Winfrey Show won’t be moving to OWN, but Winfrey will have a daily presence on the channel via series and specials or promos. And OWN will have the rights to the entire 25-year Oprah Winfrey Show catalog beginning in September 2011, so they could rerun the episodes.

But will specials, promos and reruns be enough to whet our Oprah appetite? Personally, I’ve never really watched her show, so what do you guys think? Should Oprah continue hosting a talk show, or is the world sick of her?

"New Moon," has all of us in a tizzy over the next installment in the "Twilight" movie series. Here's my review...

Disclaimer: No, I did not read the “Twilight” or “New Moon” books and am just basing my review on watching the feature films that were produced by Summit Entertainment and star the ever-popular Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Just FYI for all you Twi-hards out there. There are a few spoilers below…WARNING

I was not one of the original Twi-hards that helped Summit Entertainment make $70.5 million during the opening weekend of Catherine Hardwicke’s “Twilight,” movie that was based on Stephanie Meyer’s beloved book series. Instead, I came home one Friday night after a long night of vodka tonics and proceeded to watch the “Twilight,” DVD about five times in a row. No, I’m not kidding.

Was it the haunting stares between Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart,) as well as the gorgeously thick sexual tension between the two photogenic teenagers? Or was it the fact that their unrequited love represents that one person(s) in your life that you knew that you could never have even if those feelings were present?

In “New Moon,” director Chris Weitz (About a Boy, The Golden Compass) takes the rein and focuses on the story between emotionally broken Bella and the suddenly uber-buff Jacob (Taylor Lautner) who has his own hairy secret that he’s keeping from his lady love. While watching the scene in which brooding Edward breaks up with Bella, seemingly for good, my own heart stopped a bit as I remembered what it was like when my own first true relationship crumbled. You know, that one that had you dreaming about weddings, happiness, and eternal bliss. And then the world came crashing down.

Jacob is the nice guy who nurses Bella back to health by being her friend, even though he wants more. And each time Bella rebuffed him, I wanted to shake her and say, “Why don’t you just go for the guy who doesn’t screw you over…even if you’re obsessed with Edward. I get that he’s hot, sultry, and eternally 17, but Jacob saved your life, cared for you when Edward left you in the forest, and will do anything for you.”

TEAM JACOB.

The movie delves into what happens when you allow your love for another person to become greater than yourself or your own self-worth. And what if the love of your life breaks your heart — does time stop or do you just stop living? It’s 2010 and our heroine, Bella Swan, is seemingly pulled in various directions by the whims of either Edward or Jacob. I kept rooting for her to be pro-active and make the right choice and choose the guy who would be good to her instead of the one who kept breaking her heart. I’m not blaming her character, but when she finally got the chance to make a pro-active decision that would bring her closer to her ultimate love, Bella didn’t even make him work for an apology. It was as if all those months of heartache had never happened.

Is this what we all do in love and relationships for that one person that we’re crazy for? No matter how much they stamp on your heart or break promises, you take them back … just because. I guess that’s the eternal wonder, mystery, and frightening power about that thing called love.

No matter what you may think about love, I’m pretty sure that you’ll enjoy this movie, especially if you’re into love triangles between vampires and werewolves.

With the unemployment rate nearing ten percent and the holidays quickly approaching, we could all use some money-saving holiday gift ideas. But when it comes to buying gifts for your significant other, a trip to your favorite store’s sales rack can seem a bit, well, cheap and meaningless.

Fortunately, there are other options. Here are some gift ideas that will make your sweetie’s heart melt without breaking the bank:

1. Wrap Yourself!

Wrap yourself in strategically-placed gift wrap and let your partner unwrap you. He will definitely enjoy the fact that you’re doing something out of the ordinary for him over the stressful holiday season. Or you can figuratively “wrap yourself” by making your time and thought a gift. (I know, the guys are screaming “Nooooo!!!”) Surprise your partner by bringing them a hot lunch or dinner when he’s putting in a late night at work.

2. Clip Coupons.

Not the kind you find in the newspaper — the kind you make yourself. Create your own coupon book with some of your partner’s favorite things you do. If your partner loves your homemade fried chicken, make a coupon for it. Or, if your partner really loves it when you put your lips … well, you get the idea. The deal is, though, when your partner cashes in, there are no rain checks!

3. Plan the night.

Let’s face it, now that you’re with your partner you spend less time with friends than during the single days. Call your partner’s friends and let them know you’d like to plan a night out FOR your partner. Work with them to make dinner reservations or figure out where they can all rendezvous — bonus points if it’s your partner’s favorite place. Let your partner know, in plenty of time, that you are all having a fun night out, and all he or she has to do is show up.

You don’t have to spend Christmas cash to let your partner know you love them and are thinking of them. After all, your time, attention, and positive spirit are gifts they will remember long after the bottle of cologne runs out.

America's Next Top Model announced this season's first petite Top Model on the finale last night. Was it Laura or Nicole?

You don’t have to be tall to be “America’s Next Top Model.” Well, not that tall. This season of the CW reality show guilty pleasure featured beauties 5′7” or below, and last night’s finale crowned the winner.

Dun dun dun….Nicole Fox! According to E! Online, the pale redheaded 18-year-old from Colorado won the honor, which also includes a contract with Wilhelmina Models, a six-page Seventeen spread and cover, and a $100,000 deal with CoverGirl cosmetics. When she found out she had won, Nicole burst into tears. “I’m a dork and I’m America’s Next Top Model!” she exclaimed. Check out the video:

“This journey was incredibly hard,” Nicole said. “I had to learn to embarrass myself—and to speak, which was a struggle. Sometimes I didn’t think I was going to survive the journey. Like, I remember during casting week I went home and I cried because I was like, ‘What have I gotten myself into? I can’t deal with this.’ And I didn’t think it would be OK to be that dorky girl.” Hmm… maybe we have different definitions of dorky. Sure, she sometimes wears glasses — but come on, she’s stunning!

Disappointed runner-up Laura Kirkpatrick (whose Kentucky accent I will NOT miss) sobbed into Tyra’s arms. “You go out there, and continue to do that beautiful thing that Laura does,” Tyra said.

Lambert’s Label: Don’t Be Too Gay

That American Idol alum/sensation Adam Lambert is gay is hardly a surprise to anyone. And yet, this record label keeps trying to stuff this big gay cat back into his rainbow colored bag.

The gay-friendly publication Out magazine nominated their top 100 people of the year. Topping that list was American Idol runner up Adam Lambert, who appeared on the cover along with comedian Wanda Sykes, musician Cyndi Lauper, director/choreographer Rob Marshall and West Point alum and Anti-Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Crusader Lt. Dan Choi.

That Lambert is gay is hardly a surprise to anyone. He wears make up and nail polish, is photographed making out with guys, and he came out in Rolling Stone for good measure.

Yet it appears that his record label would like to keep his sexual orientation on the low-low, at least according to Out’s Editor-in-Chief, Aaron Hiklin. In Hiklin’s editor’s letter, he points out an interesting dichotomy: The American public’s tolerance of gays and lesbians has grown such that Lambert made it to second place in this very enormous, very national, very mainstream competition. And yet, his label has repeatedly refused to allow Lambert onto the cover of Out, only allowing it this time because it was a group shot, which also included a straight woman (Lauper). And, this is the best part, they insisted Out not make him look ‘too gay.’

I understand the label’s concerns. Whatever their own personal politics (which I don’t know), Lambert is their holy cash cow. They don’t want anything to impact the money he is putting in their pockets, and considering that signing him was a business decision, you can’t exactly blame them. Business is business.

But still: the cat isn’t exactly in the bag, guys. It’s out. It has told everyone who is listening it’s out. It’s wearing a big rainbow flag. It has done everything short of release a sex tape of it with Levi Johnston while wearing drag.

And maybe, just maybe, it’s okay.

Beloved figure skater Scott Hamilton will return to the ice for the first time in five years as part of an inspirational Thanksgiving special. According to The Huffington Post, the 51 year-old Olympic gold medalist and testicular cancer survivor had stayed off his skates due to a brain tumor scare, but he’ll skate again for the special “Kaleidoscope,” which will air Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26) on Fox.

“I decided this year to take charge of my health, and get back on the ice after five years,” Scott told Fox New York. ”It’s taken 12 months to get to this point but I’m a work in progress. Onward and upward. If you don’t ask your body to do something, you’ll never get an answer.” Check out the entire interview:

Scott will skate alongside fellow cancer survivor Dorothy Hammill, as well as Kristi Yamaguchi and Nancy Kerrigan. The special is intended to inspire viewers to triumph over illness. “It’s about using entertainment to get the word out about cancer and awareness,” Scott said. “This one is mostly about women’s cancers.”

Olivia Newton John will also perform. “The cast is incredible, the show is beautiful,” he said. “What a thrill to be back in front of an audience.” You go, Scott! Keep skating!

Johnny Depp may be the Sexiest Man Alive, but it’s really hard to argue that anyone besides Robert Pattinson is the most popular guy in the world right now. The 23 year-old Brit with his irresistible grin and trademark scruff appeared on The TODAY Show this morning, claiming that he had no idea the Twilight franchise would be such an enormous force in pop culture. Check out the video:

”I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen with it,” he said. Robert also insisted that despite his mega fame, he feels exactly the same as he always has. “I speak in an American accent when I’m talking to crowds, because it’s so separate to my actual life. I still feel like I’m kind of acting. I think that’s the way so I don’t go completely mad.” Shockingly, he said that he was going to quit acting the day before his Twilight audition because he never got any jobs!

Robert insists he doesn’t mind that he has less screen time in New Moon, which comes out tonight at midnight. “I always liked this book,” he said. “I always thought it was the most complex, especially for Edward’s character. The more in love with someone you fall, the more you lose control of the relationship and kind of attack and destroy it. I always thought that was interesting.”

As usual, he skirted the question about whether he’s dating Kristen Stewart. Let’s hope the fans don’t attack and destroy their beloved Robert.

Alright, alright, stop sobbing. Well, if you insist on continuing to weep over the man who got away, may I offer you this pint of Ben & Jerry’s excellent “Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream”? It goes good with incessant crying, I find.

But listen, you can find much inspiration to mend that broken heart of yours by way of movie therapy. You might argue, “but my case is different!” but as you should also know, there’s more than one way to approach the subject of LOVE in the movies. One of these flicks is bound to make you feel better, and depending on how you’re feeling currently, offer you maximum comfort. And that “Americone Dream” is pretty tasty too, am I right?

DISCLAIMER!: I already know every woman on the planet loves The Notebook and Moulin Rouge in terms of pure chick flick romantic movie drama, so I won’t bother mentioning them. You already love them. Get off my case. It’s like a broken record with you people.

Persuasion

(1995 – Masterpiece Theater version)

There’s Hope for Us Yet-

Did you cast him aside because your friends and family disapproved of him, causing him to slip through your sorry fingers? Then this particular adaptation of Persuasion might be up your alley. Persuasion, as simply put as possible, is the story of an overlooked woman who loved a man when he was poor, was convinced by everyone around her to give him up, only to have him reenter her life later, and, annoyingly, become the center of attention of lesser women while she pines away quietly. Like most Austen-based chick flicks, you will have to sit through everyone’s machinations to get to your big romantic moment of closure. I also love that the Anne in this adaptation is no over-the-top beauty, so her problems simply feel more real. Enjoy with: endless cups of tea and sympathy.

À bout de souffle / Breathless

(1960)

Ah! Maybe He Was No Good Anyway!-

I’m always surprised to bump into little hipster girls who haven’t seen this movie. It’s the quintessential “maybe he’s nothing but bad news anyhow” kind of flick, full
of winks and more winks to the American gangster genre and pure youthful rebellion. And what do you do when your chemistry is electric but…he’s kind of a mess? Hopefully the talents of Jean Luc Godard, a foxy Jean Paul Belmondo, and the gamine beauty Jean Seberg will help you feel better about your little conundrum. Enjoy with: lots of cigarettes.

In The Mood for Love

It Wasn’t Meant to Be, But We Meant It While It Lasted-

How can you not have seen this movie by now? Is it simply a hatred of subtitles? Girl, you gotta get with the program. In this movie, Maggie Cheung is one of the most beautiful women ever committed to celluloid, and Tony Leung’s eyes can’t get any more romantic and sadder. Cheung and Leung star as married-to-other-people lovers, racked by guilt and propelled by unrequited love, who must keep their feelings completely locked up inside due to societal standards. Everything in this movie is pure poetry. It will get your mind off the pain, if just for a little while. Enjoy with: big bowls of comforting, steamy soup, preferably with noodles, just like the lovers enjoy in this movie.

Camille Claudel

He Used Me, That Bastard! But At Least I Still Have My Talent-

Chances are you know who Rodin is, but not his lover and fellow sculptor, Camille Claudel (played here by a ravishing Isabelle Adjani). Imaginative art historians have wondered about Claudel’s influence on Rodin, and vice versa — did he make her a better sculptor? Was she the one making those beautiful hands on all his statues? This movie follows Camille’s awakening as an artist, her troubled romance with the more famous Rodin, and her struggle to make her own art while gasping for air in his shadow. After you’re done watching this, hopefully, you will cast aside your tissues and pint of Colbert ice cream to get up and focus on your own talents and your own bad self. Screw him. It’s his loss. Enjoy with: big goblets of red wine and a slightly angry disposition.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

Continuing On That Last Thought – Girl, You Are Better Off Without Him-

This, my sisters, is my ultimate comfort chick flick. It is stylish, campy, hilarious, and you will completely relate to Carmen Maura (Almodovar’s muse before Penelope Cruz — rhyme is accidental). Pepa, played by the unsinkable Maura, is being unceremoniously dumped by her rather callous lover who she can never locate on the phone and is about to leave town with his new chickadee. In between calling him constantly and lurking around outside his house, she finds the time to set a bed on fire, attempt poisoning people, and occasionally fling all manner of items out the window. Basically — all the crazy crap we wish we could do when we’re heartbroken yet never have the cojones to actually attempt (well, us more timid girls at least). This movie is chock-full of excellent witty female dialogue, and I maintain that Almodovar makes the best movies for women. You will feel inspired to pick yourself up off that couch and go out and get the world after watching Pepa’s trials and tribulations. Added bonus? A very, very young Antonio Banderas. Enjoy with: a lot of gazpacho, and a really good girlfriend.

A Room With a View

But, You Cynical Bitch! I *WANT* To Believe In Love Again-

Cliche time: sometimes love is going to find you when you least expect it, and often, when you least welcome it (hellooo, engaged to somebody else!) And if this is your kind of favorite romantic movie cliche, and it’s going to make you feel better right now, then this is the movie for you. You’ve got your petticoats, disapproving family members, free spirited (and cute!) English boys, and weirdly enough, a very uptight Daniel Day Lewis. The closing images of this film will stick with you a long time and probably make you want to book a flight to Firenze, right away. Enjoy with: pasta, and a man who reminds you of a young Julian Sands.

The Last of the Mohicans

Well, While We’re At It-

I can’t end this list with one of Daniel Day Lewis’ more prissy performances! We should leave it off with one of his most manly! And here is DDL at his most dashing. He will save you from marauding Natives, a loveless marriage to a Redcoat, from–well from just about anything. Just stay alive, no matter what occurs, he will find you! So you’ve lost your faith in the goodness and sincerity of men, maybe Daniel Day Lewis will restore it? Or you could just watch The Notebook, jeeze! Fine! Gahd! Enjoy with: um, nothing makes this movie better than it is already. Sorry.

Don't even think about trying to burglarize 50 Cent. All of his money has already been spent on his security system.

We’re all aware that celebrities shell out big bucks for a lot of things: cars, houses, clothing, and, yes, security. It’s a valid expense. Just consider the recent burglaries on stars’ homes in Hollywood. It makes sense to have extra safe-guards against crooks and crazed fans. But, I’m actually surprised by some of the numbers listed in a recent article about celeb security. And not for how high they were, but rather how little they actually spend. I thought celebrities would drop much more to keep themselves and their property safe.

50 Cent apparently spends $20,000 a week to secure his Connecticut mansion, which is just over $1 million a year. Why do I not think that’s all that much money? I guess I just expected a number closer to $5 million. But, I guess, no one is really going to mess with 50 Cent. He is, in part, his own security system. Perhaps helpless Hollywood party girls like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan should call him up and get some advice on how to prevent their homes from getting broken into, yet again.

Britney Spears, who is almost never photographed without two hulking bodyguards flanking her, only spends about $500,000 a year on security, at least that was the case in 2008, when she was still in mega meltdown mode. I thought her security costs would be sky-high. That said, I think financially-troubled stars like Britney could cutout a lot of their security costs by simply not chasing the flashbulbs of the paparazzi. If they would just stay home or keep a low profile, perhaps so many stars wouldn’t be facing money woes.

None of this really seems out of the ordinary though. These celebrities make millions of dollars, hand over fist. And they spend it in often ridiculous ways that are unfamiliar to normal people. So their huge security expenses just seem proportional to their earnings and celebrity status. It just seems normal for such high-profile people to be spending large amounts of money on security. Just another day in the life…

Coupons.com Household Savings Expert Jeanette Pavini offers her Holiday Budgeting tips to help you make it to The New Year with your bank account in the black.

We all have one wish for this holiday season, and it’s to make it through to 2010 without going broke.

Coupons.com Household Savings Expert Jeanette Pavini is here to give you helpful tips on how to navigate the holiday season with your budget, and sanity, intact.

• Before pulling out your wallet, set a holiday budget by writing a list of every person and every occasion (don’t forget holiday parties you’re attending and hosting) you’ll need to buy for this season, and then allocate a dollar amount for each name and event. Remember to factor in sales tax and possibly shipping costs.

• Stick to your budget by finding ways to save on each and every purchase:

• There’s never been a better time to take advantage of coupons, promotional codes, club cards and rewards points from credit cards.

• Always comparison shop, as prices vary from store to store, and be sure to save receipts to get refunded for any later price adjustments.

• Consider opening a store credit card for additional discounts on high-ticket items, but first be sure you will be able to pay it off as soon as the bill comes to avoid interest charges. Also, know that every time there is an inquiry to your credit history it can lower your credit score a few points, so don’t apply if you are in the process of refinancing or buying a home or car!

• Get creative with thoughtful, personal DIY gifts:

• Cook your trademark dish and include a “Top Secret” envelope with a copy of your family recipe.

• Decorate a small clay pot to match a friend or family member’s kitchen and plant a one-of-a-kind herb garden.

• Create a custom coupon book with redeemable offers for organizing photos, a car wash, a home-cooked meal, a massage, etc.

• A great, inexpensive way to punch up a floral arrangement is grabbing branches, swags of evergreen or winterberries. Arrange in a large vase to bring the outdoors inside this holiday season as a housewarming gift.

• Donate your time. As a priceless gift to a friend or family member involved with a non-profit or devoted to a particular cause, volunteer with the charity. Whether it’s a clean-up day at the beach or park, assisting at a soup kitchen, or delivering means, get a group of friends to join in for an experience no one will forget.

• If you unexpectedly get a gift from somebody that’s not on your list, resist the urge to buy them a present in return – you didn’t budget for it and you’ll end up having to gift them next year too. Simply say, “What a pleasant surprise, thank you so much for thinking of me.”

• Lottery tickets are always a fun and unexpected “little something” for co-workers – and they make great stocking stuffers too.

Check out Coupons.com for tons of great manufacturer’s coupons to save even more on your holiday gifts, meals and supplies.

Shiver me timbers. People Magazine has announced its Sexiest Man Alive for 2009, and it's Johnny Depp. See who else made the list!

Shiver me timbers. People Magazine has announced its Sexiest Man Alive for 2009, and it’s Johnny Depp.

Our favorite scissor-handed swashbuckler was also awarded the honor back in 2003, making him one of only three heartthrobs to make the list twice (Brad Pitt and George Clooney are the others, which isn’t a huge shock).

But does Johnny still have it going on? He’s a 46-year-old father of two, and he’s starting to look a bit weathered. Is that what makes him hot? That his old boots marched through so many places, that his smoldering eyes have seen so many (surely dangerous) things?

“Johnny Depp has magical powers. He’s unlike anyone else,” says actress Isla Fisher, who’s married to Sacha Baron Cohen. “He’s funny, generous and clever. It’s just a shame he’s so hard on the eyes.” Oh, Isla. How you live with Borat every day, I’ll never know.

I definitely understand why so many women go for the sexy mystery of Johnny Depp. But I may have to pick up the mag to see if my faves made it on the list of 109 other hotties, who include Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Bradley Cooper (yes, yes, & yes!), and obviously, New Moon star Robert Pattinson. All I have to say though is…Chace Crawford better be on that list!

But I can’t take my eyes off Rebecca Meyer, who was eliminated, but proved on The Jay Leno Show last night that she’s clearly won her battle all the same. Check out the video:

“It’s about weight loss, it’s not about being The Biggest Loser for me. It’s about getting my life back.” That’s the thing about The Biggest Loser; as much the monetary prize is a significant motivator, all of the contestants who are able to lose weight and become healthier really do win. Personally, I think the show would be a lot more entertaining if they spent more time on challenges and exercise and nutrition and less time with all the crying about who gets voted off each week.

Although Rebecca was initially very upset about being voted off the show, she channeled her anger into a very successful home program. Rebecca went from 304 pounds to 157, and now she’s rocking a teeny waist and seriously defined legs and arms.

She said she has always struggled with her weight, even as a child. To all her tormentors in high school, she says: “What up now!”

You go, Rebecca! You’re my idol.

Today marks the 81st birthday of the world’s most beloved rodent: Mickey Mouse. According to MagicalMountain.net, although he had appeared in the animated short Plane Crazy six months earlier, November 18, 1928 is widely recognized as Mickey Mouse’s birthday as it was the day that Steamboat Willie (the first Mickey Mouse cartoon with synchronized sound) was released.

Random tidbit: I wish I had seen Steamboat Willie since I once appeared on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and I had to use my “ask the audience lifeline” to find out about it! Fortunately, the audience was, apparently, filled with 1920s cartoon buffs. Check out the famous cartoon:

If you’re near San Francisco, you can celebrate with a visit to the Walt Disney Family Museum. It includes galleries of the earliest known drawings of Mickey Mouse, vintage Mickey merchandise, an interactive station that demonstrates how sound is synchronized to animation, and much more. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Monday.

Wal Mart also has a huge array of Mickey Mouse items at Black Friday prices, from tricycles to DVDs to bedding. Toys R Us also has a nice selection of Mickey stuff. Finally, The Disney Store features Mickey items for both kids and adults, including collectible ornaments, figurines and art.

“Last night was pretty tough,” she told “Good Morning America” today. “I wasn’t too shocked to find out I was leaving. I was competing against huge names. … I was prepared for it, but I am bummed, I won’t lie. I tried my best.”

Joanna and professional dancing partner Derek Hough were some of the most consistent dancers on the show and earned 81 out of 90 points from judges for their Viennese waltz on Monday’s show. Judge Carrie Ann was so captivated that she told them, “you took my breath away.” But fan votes count too, and Kelly Osbourne is the clear fan favorite. “She came in raw with no experience. She deserves a chance to win the title,” Joanna said of the reality TV star. “She’s a doll face. I adore her.”

Now there are just three couples left: Kelly will be up against Donny Osmond and Mya for the finals on Monday. Who do you think is going to win? I definitely have a soft spot for Kelly, but Mya is a fabulous dancer too.

Oh Paris. Girl, you need to just shut it.

Paris Hilton is reportedly peeved that the uber-talented and completely relevant Kardashian sisters have eclipsed her own mind-numbing brand of undeserved annoying celebrity. Paris just woke up this morning to find out she does not have a fabulous rear end, a husband playing for the Lakers, or a dad as creepy looking as Bruce Jenner, and it makes her unhappy!

A probably-completely-legit inside source said: “[Paris] used to command $100,000 for club appearances, but now Kim is the hottest girl — and they aren’t friends anymore.”

Wait, make sure you’ve swallowed that sip of coffee or bite of danish, here comes the doozy:

“Paris has realized that standing for excess in a recession doesn’t appeal,” our insider continued. “The Kardashian girls seem more real, and girls identify with them more. She’s got to ditch the pink Bentley and concentrate on developing herself.”

What the HELL. Paris has been huffing her own perfume again, she thinks the K sisters are succeeding because of how “relate-able” they are? Maybe it’s just me and my sad little life, but I haven’t fallen in love with Lamar Odom thereby securing excellent Lakers tickets for life (or for the duration of the marriage). I also didn’t have a famous sex tape in circulation, netting me $5 million dollars in a suit against Vivid Entertainment. I’d make a bitchy comment about the third sister, but I think I’ve made my point already. Paris, the Kardashians aren’t famous because we’re relating to their lifestyles in this economic downturn! They’re famous because people got simply sick of, well, you!

Alright, you Twirlites out there, sound off. Who bugs you the most? You still think Paris is just “acting stupid”? Do you love the Kardashians? If so, what are you smoking, and can I have some?

You’ve got to give Gossip Girl points for changing it up. A week ago was the highly-anticipated (but honestly, pretty tame) threesome between Dan, Vanessa and Olivia (Hilary Duff), and last night’s episode featured queen of eccentricity Lady Gaga.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Gossip Girl is known for its interesting musical selections. Lily’s and Rufus’ wedding included a performance from Sonic Youth, season one’s Cotillion episode featured The Pierces’ “Secret,” and another recent ep featured a kickass cover of T.I.’s “Whatever You Like” by Anya Marina. Lady Gaga added her song “Bad Romance” into the mix last night, as part of Blair’s plot to get the artsy Tisch students to like her by bringing a pop star to NYU to perform.

Gaga rocked her usual voluminous platinum ‘do and a giant red gown that dancers held out around her like a sea of blood (or something). Check out the video:

What do you guys think? If you’re already a Gaga fan, you know that her wacky outfit and performance were pretty standard. I did like that the song’s lyric “I want your love” fit in thematically with the Dan-Olivia-Vanessa love triangle. (FYI, Olivia pretty much dumped Dan for kissing Vanessa like he never kissed her during their threesome.) Silly Dan. You know you’ve let things go too far when Lady Gaga is the soundtrack to your love life.

It's official. I've died and gone to hell. Heidi and Spencer Pratt want to branch out from their "roles" on "The Hills" and give their fans a more complete look into their lives with a new reality show.

It’s official. I’ve died and gone to hell. According to The Huffington Post, Heidi and Spencer Pratt want to branch out from their “roles” on The Hills and give their fans a more complete look into their lives with a new reality show.

In an interview to promote their new book, “How to be Famous: Our Guide to Looking the Part, Playing the Press, and Becoming a Tabloid Fixture,” the couple said they’re shopping the idea around to various networks. I am praying that nobody’s interested.

As much as the title of that book makes me want to puke, I have to admit that Heidi and Spencer do seem to know what they’re talking about when it comes to being famous for no reason. But we have to make the madness end and not keep fueling their ridiculous “careers.”

Heidi and Spencer claim that The Hills is limiting because it doesn’t really focus on their characters’ fame. ”You don’t get to see our everyday lives and what we do,” Heidi said. Their proposed new show would be more inclusive and even feature live segments. But even if they do get their proposed show, they would still plan to stay on The Hills and balance both shows.

Hollywood, please hear my plea. One Heidi & Spencer show is enough! In fact, more than enough.

Lindsay Lohan just can't get enough -- free stuff, that is. First, champagne...then $15k worth of clothes and accessories. Why is it that the more rich and famous you are, the more free stuff you expect?

Lindsay Lohan just can’t get enough — free stuff, that is. According to Fox News, the 23-year-old former parent trapper tried to pay for an expensive bottle of champagne at Crown Bar using Kellan Lutz’s tab, and then took it one step further by trying to gank $15,000 worth of clothes and accessories too.

Last Thursday, LiLo attended the launch of Jermaine Dupri’s new watch line “NuPop” in collaboration with famed jewelry designer Pascal Mouawad at Kitson, but wanted more than just a nice watch as a souvenir. Although she was apparently already being paid to show up, sources say Mouawad offered the actress $500 to spend at Kitson, which she successfully bargained up to $1000.

Then the sad tale continued as she went crazy in the store, pulling out drawers and demanding various items, eventually racking up a $15,000 bill. When she was told she had exceeded her limit, Lindsay said that “Pascal would take care of it because I’m the only celebrity here.”

“Pascal said no, so she went and started talking smack about him to Jermaine Dupri who doesn’t even know her,” said an insider. “He was totally bewildered and couldn’t believe it. Eventually Pascal said she could have $2000 to spend but that was the absolutely limit.” Whoa, whoa. Why did she get her way? Why is it that the more rich and famous you are, the more free stuff you expect?
